Lasers have become a mainstay in dentistry over the last several years. They are able to help with many different oral issues, from whitening teeth to helping to reshape your gums.

If you aren't sure what lasers are used for, then you may be surprised to find out just how many uses lasers have at your dentist's office.

Here are some of the most common reasons that dentists turn to lasers to help treat oral issues.

Using Lasers in Dentistry

The most common use of lasers in most dental offices is to help rid your teeth of decay. The laser is able to break up the decay and get the rest of your tooth's enamel ready to take a filling. This is quick, and often, patients feel little or no discomfort during the procedure.

Whitening your teeth is another common use of lasers. The laser is able to react with the peroxide solution, hastening the whitening process. This can give you quick results that last!

You can also have a laser remove a biopsy or a lesion from within your mouth. They can also be used in the same way to remove canker sores from in or around your mouth.

Reshaping the gums during gum disease treatment is another great way of using a laser. The laser cuts through the bacteria to help restore health to your mouth. Plus, it can give your gums a more natural shape, which is good when you need properly shaped gums for implants.
