The Benefits of Confessing Dental Anxiety to Your Dentist

When you fear any aspect of seeing the dentist, it is important that your dentist knows this. That way, whenever that aspect of the visit comes up, your dentist knows to take a little extra time to reassure you.

It also allows them to know why your mood or demeanor may suddenly change when they approach you with something that frightens you. The only way your dentist is going to be able to help you with those struggles is by you letting them know there is a problem.

Talk to Your Dentist About What Frightens You

The best way to be able to steer clear of what frightens you when it comes to seeing the dentist, is to talk to them. The more your dentist knows, the greater options they have when it comes to helping you.

Explain to them what you know of that makes you nervous, and if you know, why it is so. You may have had some type of negative experience in the past, or you may not even know what the problem is.

Explain each part of the anxiety that you get. If you feel better knowing what is going on, then tell your dentist that. If you prefer having no idea what is going on, then confess that as well.

Tell them what you know of that helps you feel better, and likewise, tell them what you know of that doesn't help. The more you can fill in those blanks, the easier it will be for you and for your dentist.

Tell your dentist as much as you can. They are going to be more than willing to help, but they will not be willing to guess if you are nervous or not. Be honest with them about what you are feeling, and see what options they can help provide you with.
