Keeping a Healthy Mouth Even at Work

Posted on 8/20/2016 by Alicia Knaysi
A woman about to chew a piece of sugarless gum.One of the hardest places to keep your mouth healthy is when you are at work. It is really hard to make sure you eat lunch, then walk with your little pack of toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss into the bathroom. It makes most people feel uncomfortable, so they would rather not do it. If you fall into that group, it is alright, because you have other things you can do that are a bit more discreet. Here are some of the things that can help.

When You Want a Healthy Mouth, Being at Work Won't Stop You

First, make sure you are drinking lots of water all day long when you are at work. Not only will it help you stay hydrated (which is really good for your teeth) but it will also help wash extra food and film off of your teeth regularly until you can brush them.

Next, bring a small bottle (travel size) of mouthwash with you to work and keep it in your desk. When you have a lunch that is especially fragrant, or when your mouth feels dirty, run to the bathroom and swish a few times. This will help rid your mouth of extra particles that could lead to tooth decay or cavities.

Finally, chew a piece of gum each morning, and each afternoon. Peppermint gum is great for keeping the levels of bacteria down in your mouth, so putting a piece in your mouth prior to lunch, and a new piece in your mouth after lunch can help keep your mouth healthier at work than doing nothing until you get home.

Just because you are at work doesn't mean that your teeth need to be neglected. Care for them as soon as you are able to, and use these tips to protect them until brushing becomes an option.
