Making Sure You Get Proper Fixes If Your Dentures Break

Posted on 8/30/2016 by Alicia Knaysi
A pair of dentures inside of a glass jar.Dentures are a great invention for those who have lost teeth, either one or many of them. The problem is that dentures wear out eventually. They work very well for most people, and can last 5, 10, or even more years, especially when properly taken care of.

However, if dentures break, it is important that you take them in to your dentist for the proper repairs, as having a broken set of dentures can cause you a lot of harm.

Dangers Associated with Broken Dentures

Dentures need to fit right. If they fit wrong, it can leave you with sores and a shift in your gums, which could make it to where your dentures no longer fit at all. In order to properly function, they must fit snugly without having pressure points.

When dentures break, this snug fit can be compromised and make it to where you are less likely to wear your dentures. This can lead to problems eating, speaking, and with your overall health.

Without the consistent pressure of chewing and speaking, your jawbone starts to break down and become reabsorbed. This can lead to issues like tumors of the jaw, problems with your alignment, and problems all the way up into your sinuses. These issues can be prevented by keeping your dentures fitting properly.

On top of these issues, it is also important to note that you cannot fix dentures on your own. Some people, especially those who are financially struggling, have tried fixing their dentures on their own with glues and other epoxies.

This is not only dangerous, but it can also be very unhealthy. These adhesives can make you very sick, plus can cause your dentures to break down even further. Always have an experienced dentist fix your dentures, for your own benefit.
