How Straws Can Help with Tooth Sensitivity

When you have sensitive teeth, it is important that you find the best ways to manage the discomfort. Since the pain can come on out of nowhere, it is important that you know ways of keeping it at bay as often as possible.

Many dentists will recommend getting your teeth sealed with sealants, and using a toothpaste designed to help people with sensitive teeth.

However, there are other things that you can do to help. Traveling with a straw can actually help you avoid the pain associated with sensitive teeth, too.

Using a Straw to Help Fight Sensitive Teeth

Drinking cold or hot drinks with sensitive teeth can cause you to instantly wince in pain. The temperature goes right to the nerves of your tooth and can leave you in agony from a sip. By using a straw, much of what you drink can instantly bypass your teeth.

This means that you are far less likely to have any pain when you drink. It is really easy to put a few straws into a zip-top bag and put them in a briefcase or a purse, or even an office desk. This way, if a situation comes up where you need one, you have one nearby. Your teeth may still have the occasional issue with sensitivity when you drink, but it isn't going to be basically everything you drink.

Talk to your dentist about tooth sensitivity. There are things they can do to help determine the cause, and to help treat the symptoms. Ask them if they can help manage the discomfort that comes along with having sensitive teeth, and what you can do to help manage it on your own. Until you get in so you can see your dentist, try using a straw. It can inexpensively make a world of difference.
